MailManager is a distributed electronic mail client implementing the Interactive Mail Access Protocol (RFC-1176), the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (RFC-821), the Standard for the Format of ARPA Internet Text Messages (RFC-822), and the new Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) structured message bodies standard as of the December 1991 Internet Draft. MailManager also supports the Berkeley (/usr/spool/mail) and Tenex (mail.txt) formats of local mail files.\

\b0 opens the Info panel, displaying the version and copyright information for this application.
. Open Mailbox...
\b0 (also invoked by Command-
\b0 ) opens a Mailbox Section panel which prompts you for a repository and mailbox. There is both a scrollable browser of repository/mailbox combinations you have previously used in this session and fields where you can enter a new repository and/or mailbox. After selecting the desired repository and mailbox, MailManager will attempt a connection to that repository (prompting for login information if necessary) and attempt to open the desired mailbox. If the repository is blank, then the mailbox is a local file on this NeXT.\
Mailboxes may be in either Berkeley (/usr/spool/mail) or Tenex (mail.txt) format. The mailbox name
\f1 INBOX
\f0 is special; it refers to the "primary mailbox" on the repository (or this NeXT if the repository is blank). The purpose of the name INBOX is to shield users from specific nomenclature on a particular repository's operating system. For local mail files (blank repository field), the INBOX is
\f1 ~/mail.txt
\f0 in Tenex format (if this file exists) or your mail file on
\f1 /usr/spool/mail
\f0 in Berkeley format. If you open a Tenex-format INBOX, then new mail is automatically transferred from your Berkeley-format mailbox.\
Tenex format exists for compatibility with the MM program. In some cases it is more efficient than Berkeley format. However, it is recommended that novice users stick with the default Berkeley format for maximal compatibility with other mail programs.
. Compose Message...

\b0 ) opens a Compose window to allow the composition and sending of a new message. You will be prompted for a to-list (list of recipients) for this message and for the subject of this message.\
